Sewer Line Inspection

Why You Need A Sewer Line Evaluation: Common Questions Answered

Sewer inspections are a valuable tool that can save you from costly sewer repairs or prevent sewer backups in the future. Sewer lines are not visible during a normal home inspection, so they require a special camera. All-Pro Home Inspections offers sewer line evaluations to help you get ahead of any problems you may have. Here we will answer some frequently asked questions about our sewer line evaluations.

Is a Sewer Line Evaluation Necessary?

The main sewer line is underground, which means the only way to identify a problem or potential problem is through a sewer line camera inspection. During these inspections, we may uncover tree root intrusions, sewer line failures, broken pipes, sags in pipelines, construction debris, or even clogs. If you add one of our sewer line evaluations to your home inspection, our 90-day main sewer and water line warranty becomes a 12-month warranty at no extra cost to you. Our sewer line evaluation can be completed during a general home inspection.

What Happens During a Sewer Line Inspection?

We first locate the cleanout and insert the camera into the main sewer pipe. Then we run the camera up to 130 feet or until we encounter a blockage, the city's sewer connection, or the septic tank. Next, we document our findings with photos before we fill out a sewer line evaluation report, which includes our photos and documentation. Finally, we issue the report within 24 hours of the evaluation.

Are These Evaluations Recommended For Both New & Old Homes?

Yes, we recommend a sewer line evaluation no matter the age of your home. Newly-built homes are still at risk for potential problems because tree roots can intrude on the main sewer line, the line may be improperly installed, or the main line may be affected by breakages, clogs, or sags. Many older homes were built with cast iron pipes, which have an average life expectancy of 40-60 years. Additionally, mature tree roots could pose root intrusion problems.
